What Is Silicone Cord? Properties and Applications

Published: Last updated: 1 min read

The properties and applications of silicone cord, and the technical points to consider when selecting the right product.

Silicone product examples for cord and sealing applications

Silicone cord is a solid or specially shaped silicone profile made to provide sealing, insulation and flexible contact between surfaces. It can be produced in round, square, rectangular and project-specific geometries.

Properties of silicone cord

  • Retains flexibility across a wide temperature range
  • Resists ozone, UV, moisture and ageing
  • Can be manufactured in different diameters, hardnesses and colours
  • Can be adapted to food and sensitive process applications with suitable compounds

Where is it used?

Silicone cords are used in oven and machine doors, electrical panels, lighting systems, industrial equipment, automotive parts and various insulation applications. Selecting the right cross-section determines the compression ratio and sealing performance.

Standard or custom manufacturing?

Alongside standard diameters, custom cross-sections can be produced from a technical drawing or sample. The appropriate silicone compound is selected by assessing the operating environment, contact chemicals, temperature and mounting groove dimensions.
