From cross-section to application

Technical
Guides

The right cross-section and dimensions.
Silicone suited to your application.

Assess your profile, dimensions and installation details through illustrations. Let's clarify your technical requirements together.

Where should you start?

The right choice in four steps.

A visual guide from product cross-section to operating conditions.

  1. 01

    Identify the cross-section

Comparison of box, D and U-channel silicone profiles

Determine whether the cross-section is solid, hollow or channelled.

  2. 02

    Determine the dimensions

Tubing cross-section showing inside diameter, outside diameter and wall thickness

Measure both the cross-section and the installation area.

  3. 03

    Share the conditions

Visual explanation of temperature, pressure and contact conditions

    Temperature, pressure and contact substances.

  4. 04

    Send the drawing

Drawing explaining dimensions, tolerances and file preparation

Describe your requirements with a drawing or photo.

Profile and cross-section selection

Different cross-sections. The right choice for your application.

Examine the outer shape, internal cavity and mounting surface together.

Box profile cross-section

20003 · Hollow cross-section

Box profile

Enclosed internal cavity and flat outer surfaces.

D profile cross-section

20088 · Solid cross-section

D profile

Flat base and rounded top surface.

U-channel profile cross-section

21720 · Open channel

U-channel profile

A channel opening that surrounds the mating component.

02 Correct dimensioning

Read dimensions correctly.
Explain your requirements clearly.

Select the product type and examine the inside diameter, outside diameter and cross-section dimensions on the drawing.

Specify the measurement unit, tolerance and total length / metres.

Tubing dimension calculator

Calculate wall thickness.

t = (outside diameter − inside diameter) / 2

1 mmWall thickness

This tool calculates geometric wall thickness only. It does not calculate pressure resistance or suitability for an application.

Materials and operating conditions

Hardness and conditions.
Assess them together.

The higher the Shore A value, the harder the material. Selection is made together with the cross-section, closing force and application conditions.

  • Specify the existing product's hardness and your colour requirements.
  • Share continuous operating and cleaning conditions.
  • Let's assess the required compliance documentation for your application.

Schematic comparison. The hardness specified in the four technical data sheets shown here is 70 Shore A.

Temperature and duration

Normal operating, brief peak and cleaning temperatures.

Pressure or vacuum

Operating value, connection method and equipment details.

Contact substances

Fluid, chemical, concentration and contact duration.

Technical drawing preparation

Share your drawing.
Let's clarify the details.

A dimensioned cross-section, application photo and operating conditions help with the assessment. If you do not have a drawing, share measurements and photos of your existing sample.

  • Cross-section, measurement unit and required tolerances
  • Equipment, installation location and operating conditions
  • Length / metres, quantity, hardness and colour

Common questions

Short answers
before you choose.

Let's assess the product and application details together.

How can I choose the right profile?

Share the existing profile's cross-section, installation area dimensions and operating conditions. Let's assess solid, hollow and channelled cross-sections for your application.

Which dimensions are needed for tubing?

Inside diameter, outside diameter and length / metres are the key measurements. Wall thickness is half the difference between the outside and inside diameters. This value alone does not determine pressure resistance.

Can I send an enquiry without a drawing?

You can send a cross-section photo of your existing sample, its key dimensions and application photos. Let's clarify the necessary technical details together before production.

Is 70 Shore A suitable for every application?

The four data sheets shown here specify 70 Shore A. Suitable hardness is assessed together with cross-section, closing force, installation method and operating conditions.
